Toyota Unveils Fifth Generation Prius Plug-in Hybrid with Enhanced Electrification and Dynamic Design

Discover the fifth-generation Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid, featuring enhanced electrification, dynamic design, and innovative technologies.

Toyota has introduced the fifth generation of its iconic Prius, featuring enhanced electrification and dynamic design.

Available exclusively in Europe as a Plug-in Hybrid Electric (PHEV) called Prius Plug-in Hybrid, this latest iteration challenges conventions and showcases Toyota’s commitment to low-carbon solutions.

With over 23 million electrified vehicles sold globally, Toyota aims to provide customers with a wide range of carbon reduction options.

Enhanced Electrification and Performance

The new Prius Plug-in Hybrid combines the best electric vehicle (EV) performance with the convenience of Hybrid technology.

Its 13.6 kWh battery enables an electric driving range of up to 86 km, making it suitable for most daily commutes.

The new Plug-in Hybrid system delivers an enhanced output for longer journeys or situations where charging is not feasible.

It achieves ultra-low combined WLTP CO2 emissions of just 11 g/km, the lowest ever for a Prius.

The latest hybrid technology in the Prius Plug-in Hybrid offers improved power and efficiency.

The 2.0-liter engine produces 152 DIN hp (112 kW) and works together with a 163 DIN hp (120 kW) transaxle front motor, resulting in a total system output of 223 DIN hp (164 kW).

The increased output ensures strong and responsive acceleration compared to the previous generation.

The new Prius features enhanced balance and handling, thanks to the second-generation GA-C platform, providing a more stable ride and improved driving dynamics.

Innovative Technologies and Design

The new Prius Plug-in Hybrid has innovative technologies that enhance safety and convenience.

The Toyota T-Mate system incorporates the latest Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) generation and can be conveniently updated over the air.

The enhanced front camera and radar provide a wider view, allowing to detection of more objects, including motorcycles and roadside hazards.

The Advanced Park system enables hands-free or remote-controlled parking, reducing stress during parking maneuvers.

In terms of design, the fifth-generation Prius features a sleek and sporty silhouette while retaining its iconic wedge shape.

The coupe-like roofline, lower overall height, and larger diameter tires contribute to its stylish appearance.

The interior offers a spacious cabin with a clean layout, combining driving enjoyment and practicality.

The driver’s view is focused on a seven-inch screen placed directly in the field of vision, enhancing safety.

The harmonious design elements and high-quality materials create a dynamic and purposeful ambiance.

Powertrain and Platform

The new Prius Plug-in Hybrid is powered by a third-generation Plug-in Hybrid Electric powertrain, which is more compact and powerful than its predecessor.

The 2.0-liter engine and new transaxle front motor deliver a total system output of 223 DIN hp (164 kW), providing strong acceleration and driving performance.

The higher-capacity lithium-ion battery pack enables Regeneration Boost for stronger deceleration and energy recovery.

The battery can be charged from zero to full in just four hours using a 3.3 kW onboard charger.

Built on the second-generation Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) philosophy, the new Prius features the GA-C platform, resulting in improved handling and stability.

The lower center of gravity achieved through optimized battery placement and fuel tank adjustments enhances driving dynamics and stability.

The rigidity of the body structure has been increased, enhancing passive safety.

Additionally, using recycled materials and easily recyclable components aligns with Toyota’s commitment to a carbon-neutral future.

Recognition for Design Excellence

Even before its European launch, the fifth-generation Prius Plug-in Hybrid received the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for its elegance and modernity.
