The decision to set up shop in Hungary was disclosed by the German newspaper, citing sources close to the EV manufacturer.

Further credibility was added by an article on a government website in Shenzhen, BYD’s headquarters, noting a meeting between Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban and BYD’s top brass, Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu.

Official Confirmation Pending

While BYD has confirmed to Reuters their ongoing search for an optimal location, they have teased a formal announcement for the year’s end.

Meanwhile, the Hungarian government has yet to make any official comments in response to inquiries regarding the matter.

Steadfast on European Growth Amid Subsidies Investigation

She mentioned that feasibility studies are in progress to underpin the expansion strategy.

BYD’s Footprint in Europe

BYD has already laid down roots in the European market, with their electric buses being manufactured in a Hungarian facility since 2016.

The automaker has cast a wide net across the continent, tapping into markets in Germany, France, the U.K., Spain, and the Scandinavian countries, indicating a robust growth trajectory in the region.

Looking Ahead

As BYD forges ahead with its plans to solidify its European operations, the automotive industry watches closely to see how this move will influence the EV landscape on the continent.

Establishing the new factory in Hungary will not only enhance BYD’s manufacturing capabilities but will also potentially create new jobs and contribute to the economic growth within the region.

With the end-of-year announcement on the horizon, anticipation is high as to how BYD’s European journey will unfold.
