However, the show faced another setback when the replacement chef, who was filling in for Rimmer, had to withdraw due to their own family emergency. 

This unexpected turn of events left Tim Lovejoy as the sole presenter on today’s episode, forcing him to step into the kitchen and prepare the scheduled recipes.

Heartbreaking Announcement: Simon Rimmer’s Father Passes Away

Rimmer took to Twitter on June 30, 2023, to share the heartbreaking news of his father’s death. 

He expressed his grief and wrote, “So sad to say that my wonderful Dad Peter passed away yesterday. He was 89 and had a long and happy life. 

He was my hero, and I will miss him so much.” 

During this challenging time, the Sunday Brunch production team has extended their heartfelt condolences to Rimmer and his family.

Simon Rimmer: A Beloved Chef and TV Personality

Simon Rimmer has been an integral part of Sunday Brunch since 2012, delighting viewers with his culinary expertise and warm personality. 

Alongside his television career, Rimmer is renowned as a chef and successful restaurateur, having authored several popular cookbooks.

The absence of Simon Rimmer meant that Tim Lovejoy had to take charge of the show independently. 

Tim Lovejoy Steps in as Sole Presenter on the Show

Lovejoy was unexpectedly called upon by TV executives, who asked him to step in as the chef for the day. 

Lovejoy introduced Miquita Oliver as his co-host during the program, filling in for Rimmer. 

Lovejoy expressed his gratitude to be part of the show and began cooking the recipes originally planned for the day.

This led to the impromptu decision for Tim Lovejoy to take on the cooking duties. 

Oliver playfully referred to Lovejoy as “Chef Tim” and inquired about the dishes he was preparing.

Lovejoy shared his surprise at receiving a last-minute text asking him to cook on the show and responded, “Well, it was weird cos last night I got the text going, ‘Can you cook tomorrow on the show?’ [and I was like], ‘Really?’ Yeah, I am! So I am doing Georgina’s recipes.” 

The unexpected role of preparing Georgina Hagan’s recipes, typically handled by Rimmer, added a challenge to Lovejoy’s day. 

However, he embraced the opportunity and began his culinary journey by preparing a roast beetroot, lentils, and walnut salad.
