90s Alt-Rock Blast: Gallagher, Garbage, Metric Rock Pine Knob

The concert at Pine Knob Music Theatre on July 6 was a collision of 90s nostalgia and the current reality of the 2020s.

The lineup featured Noel Gallagher (of Oasis) with his band High Flying Birds, Garbage, and Metric.

Despite the potential for a massive turnout in the past, only around 4,000 fans showed up, likely due to a combination of over-familiarity and lack of interest in the market.

However, Noel Gallagher and Garbage delivered impressive performances, proving their talent and appeal are still strong.

Garbage took the stage after a well-received set by Metric, playing a mix of their iconic hits and newer songs.

Shirley Manson, the lead singer, showed her commanding presence despite recovering from hip surgery earlier in the year.

Garbage celebrated the 25th anniversary of their hit song "I Think I'm Paranoid" and pleased the crowd with a blend of deep cuts and popular tracks like "Stupid Girl," "Push It," and "Only Happy When it Rains."

Some fans left after Garbage's set, but those who stayed were treated to Noel Gallagher's performance, where he showcased his songwriting prowess.

Backed by the High Flying Birds, Gallagher performed a mix of solo and Oasis songs, including a cover of Bob Dylan's "Quinn the Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn)."

The crowd enthusiastically sang along to Oasis classics like "The Masterplan," "Live Forever," and the closing song, "Don't Look Back in Anger."

Gallagher also celebrated his soccer club, Manchester City, by displaying their crest and a cut-out of manager Pep Guardiola on stage.

In a just world, more people would have attended and appreciated this unique combination of past and present music.
